Dentists and parents are becoming increasingly concerned about the use of teeth whitening products by children as young as 7-10. Children are attracted to the Chiclet-like incredible white teeth they see with celeberties like Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears. Dentists are now calling the effect "toilet bowl teeth" since the teeth are so white - they resemble toilet bowl porcelain.
At the Chicago Dental Society - a recent professionals convention - over 40% were concerned over "too white smiles" especially with children. Signs of issues can include inflamed gums; sensitivity / pain; or a blue / grey effect around the edges of teeth. Parents should carefully consider tooth whitening for kids, especially how much they use of the tooth whitening products. Moderate use can be reasonable - but over-use is the issue. On average - over 60% of people who use teeth whitening products experience some gum irritation or sensitivty pain.
Tooth whitening is a great advance to keep you looking beautiful, but there is a line of reasonablity with our children. Are your kids whitening teeth-- thoughts from our communitiy?
Whitening treatments don't yield permanent results. If you expose your teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining you may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as 1 month. Those who avoid foods and beverages that stain may be able to wait one year or longer before another whitening treatment or touch-up is needed.
You worked hard to get your teeth white. Here are some tips to help maintain your pearly whites.
Avoid the consumption of or exposure to products that stain your teeth. If you do choose to consume beverages that stain, consider using a straw so that the liquid bypasses your front teeth.
Brush or rinse immediately after consuming stain-causing beverages or foods.
Follow good oral hygiene practices. Brush your teeth at least twice daily and floss at least once daily to remove plaque. Use a whitening toothpaste (once or twice a week only) to remove surface stains and prevent yellowing. Use a regular toothpaste the rest of the time.
Consider touch-up treatments. Depending on the whitening method used, you may need a touch-up every 6 months or after a year or two. If you smoke or drink lots of stain-causing beverages, you may need a touch up more often.

In my opinion, teeth whitening is very sensitive procedure and should be only performed by a dentist to ensure the safety of your gums.

Visiting the dentist's office used to be the only way into getting your teeth whitened. Doing so you had to spend alot of time and money, and you also had to face the terror of seeing the dentist. Nonetheless more people still yearned for whiter teeth, and so came along the idea of home teeth whitening.

When i was 8 yrs.old i also attracted to the Chiclet-like incredible white teeth,i wonder why Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears called the dentist "toilet bowl teeth" anyway, If you expose your teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining you may see the whiteness start to fade in as little as 1 month.

Actually what we eat causes the stain in our teeth and candies and even milk can cause tooth decay as well. I have learned this from from my cosmetic dentist where I get the best dental treatment.
